"The 4-C Economic Development Authority and I have partnered to help grow businesses in southern West Virginia since its inception in 1988. The 4-C EDA continues to be a great economic development resource for our region and I look forward to continuing our work together to create additional jobs and economic development opportunities in Fayette, Nicholas, Raleigh and Summers Counties. Their work is appreciated and certainly does not go unnoticed."

8% More Affordable in the New River Gorge

Cost of Living is an index that compares costs between areas. It weights and combines the six measurements of housing, food and groceries, transportation, utilities, health care, and miscellaneous expenses such as clothing, services, and entertainment. State and local taxes are not included in any category. The average cost of living in the United States is represented as a value of 100. The New River Gorge averages a rate of 92% in the index for the 1st quarter in 2008, making it 8% more affordable than the national average.

Electricity costs are approximately 20% below the national average, and health care is 4% below national average. Potential capital and operating cost savings have been calculated to be at 11-21% below the national average.

Number One in Homeownership

West Virginia leads the nation in the rate of homeownership and ranks ninth in the affordability of homes. In addition, West Virginians hold some of the lowest levels of debt in the nation, ranking 1st in median mortgage debt and 3rd in credit card debt.
